Where Do Your Tax Dollars Go? The   above   pie   chart   shows   a   percentage   of   your   County   tax   dollar   and   where   it   is   spent.      In   general,   for   2016, 52.73%   is   levied   by   the   School   Board,   46.99%   is   levied   by   the   County   and   .28%   is   levied   by   the   Northwest Florida   Water   Management   District   (NWFWM)   based   on   2016   final   millage   rates   set   by   the   respective   taxing authority. Every   property   taxpayer   will   pay   ad   valorem   (according   to   your   value)   taxes   to   the   County,   School   Board   and Northwest   Florida   Water   Management   District.      If   you   are   within   city   limits,   you   will   pay   city   taxes   to   the   City of   Milton,   City   of   Gulf   Breeze   or   the   Town   of   Jay.      These   are   also   ad   valorem   taxes,   based   on   the   assessed value of your property.  Millage rates are set by the City Councils.  Midway   Fire   District,   Avalon-Mulat   Fire   District   and   Holley-Navarre   Fire   District   taxes   are   ad   valorem   based.     All   other   taxpayers   are   assessed   a   fire   tax   set   by   the   County   for   your   respective   Fire   Department,   and   that   fire tax is a uniform flat fee.  The   Property   Appraiser   is   only    responsible   for   setting   the   assessed   value   of   your   home.      The   assessed   value, less   any   exemptions,   is   then   multiplied   by   the   millage   rate   set   by   the   individual   taxing   authority   to   determine the   amount   of   your   ad   valorem   taxes.      For   your   convenience,   we   have   provided   contact   information   for   each of the taxing authorities mentioned above.  Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners (850) 983-1877 6495 Caroline Street, Suite M, Milton, FL 32570 Santa Rosa County School Board (850) 983-5000 5086 Canal Street, Milton, FL 32570 Northwest Florida Water Management District (Headquarters) (850) 539-5999 85 Water Management Drive, Havana, FL 32333 City of Gulf Breeze (850) 934-5115 1070 Shoreline Drive, Gulf Breeze, FL 32561 City of Milton (850) 983-5400 6738 Dixon Street, Milton, FL 32570 Town of Jay (850) 675-4556 3695 Highway 4, Jay, FL 32565 Avalon-Mulat Fire District (850) 994-4445 5408 Mulat Road, Milton, FL 32583 Holley-Navarre Fire District (850) 939-5236 8618 Explanade Street, Navarre, FL 32566 Midway Fire District (850) 932-4771 1322 College Parkway, Gulf Breeze, FL 32563 In   addition   to   these   taxes,   you   may   be   assessed   non-ad   valorem   taxes   for   MSBU’s   or   Municipal   Service Benefit   Units.      These   include   street   lighting,   sewer/water,   road   paving,   etc.      All   questions   concerning   MSBU’s should   be   directed   to   the   County   Budget   office   at   (850)   983-1853.      The   Property   Appraiser’s   office   does   not initiate, establish nor maintain MSBU’s.
